Spoken Word

Click on the video below to watch Kari Jobe and Isaac Wimberley perform Forever/Spoken Word

If there are words for Him then I don’t have them
You see my brain has not yet reached a point
Where it could form a thought
That could adequately describe the greatness of my God
And my lungs have not yet developed the ability
To release a breath with enough agility
To breathe out the greatness of His love
And my voice, my voice is so inhibited
Restrained by human limits
That it’s hard to even send a praise up
If there are words for Him then I don’t have them
My God
His grace is remarkable
Mercies are innumerable
Strength is impenetrable
He is honourable, accountable, and favourable
Unsearchable yet knowable
Indefinable yet approachable
Indescribable yet personal
He is beyond comprehension
Further than imagination
Constant through generations
King of every nation
But
If there are words for Him then I don’t have them
You see my words are few
And to try and capture the one TRUE God
Using my vocabulary will never do
But I use my words as an expression
An expression of worship to a Saviour
A Saviour who is both worthy and deserving of my praise
So I use words
My heart extols the Lord
Blesses His name forever
He has won my heart, captured my mind
And has bound them both together
He has defeated me in my rebellion
Conquered me in my sin
He has welcomed me into His presence
Completely invited me in
He has made Himself the object of my sight
Flooding me with mercies in the morning
Drowning me with grace in the night
But
If there are words for Him then I don’t have them
But what I do have…Is Good News
For my God knew that man-made words would never do
For words are just tools that we use
To point to the Truth
So He sent his son Jesus Christ as THE WORD
Living proof
He is the image of the invisible God
The firstborn of all creation
For by Him all things were created
Giving nothingness formation
And by His word He sustains, in the power of His name
For He is before all things and over all things He reigns
HOLY IS HIS NAME!!
Praise Him for His life
The way He persevered in strife
The humble Son of God becoming the perfect sacrifice
Praise Him for His death
That He willingly stood in our place
That He lovingly endured the grave
That He battled our enemy
And on the third day rose in victory
Praise Him because He rose!!
Hallelujah He rose!!
He is everything that was promised
Praise Him as the risen King
Lift your voice and sing
For one day He will return for us and we will finally be
United with our Saviour for eternity
So it’s not just words that I proclaim
For my words point to the WORD
And the WORD has a name
Hope has a name
Joy as a name
Peace has a name
Love has a name
And that name is Jesus Christ
Praise His name FOREVER!

Blue Like Jazz

What great gravity is this that drew my soul toward yours? What
great force, that though I went falsely, went kicking, went disguising
myself to earn your love, also disguised, to earn your
keeping, your resting, your staying, your will fleshed into mine
rasped by a slowly revealed truth, the barter of my soul, the soul
that I fear, the soul that I loathe, the soul that: if you will love
I will love. I will redeem you, if you will redeem me? Is this our
purpose, you and I together to pacify each other, to lead each
other toward the lie that we are good, that we are noble, that
we need not redemption, save the one that you and I invented
of our own clay?

I am not scared of you, my love, I am scared of me.
I went looking, I wrote out a list, I drew an image, I bled
a poem of you. You were pretty, and my friends believed I was
worthy of you. You were clever, but I was smarter, perhaps the
only one smarter, the only one able to lead you. You see, love,
I did not love you, I loved me. And you were only a tool that
I used to fix myself, to fool myself, to redeem myself. And
though I have taught you to lay your lily hand in mine, I walk
alone, for I cannot talk to you, lest you talk it back to me, lest
I believe that I am not worthy, not deserving, not redeemed.
I want desperately for you to be my friend. But you are not
my friend; you have slid up warmly to the man I wanted to be,
the man I pretended to be, and I was your Jesus and, you were
mine. Should I show you who I am, we may crumble. I am not
scared of you, my love, I am scared of me.

I want to be known and loved anyway. Can you do this? I
trust by your easy breathing that you are human like me, that
you are fallen like me, that you are lonely, like me. My love,
do I know you? What is this great gravity that pulls us so
painfully toward each other? Why do we not connect? Will we
be forever in fleshing this out? And how will we with words,
narrow words, come into the knowing of each other? Is this
God's way of meriting grace, of teaching us of the labyrinth
of His love for us, teaching us, in degrees, that which He is
sacrificing to join ourselves to Him? Or better yet, has He
formed our being fractional so that we might conclude one
great hope, plodding and sighing and breathing into one
another in such a great push that we might break through
into the known and being loved, only to cave into a greater
perdition and fall down at His throne still begging for our
acceptance? Begging for our completion?

We were fools to believe that we would redeem each other.
Were I some sleeping Adam, to wake and find you resting
at my rib, to share these things that God has done, to walk you
through the garden, to counsel your timid steps, your bewildered
eye, your heart so slow to love, so careful to love, so
sheepish that I stepped up my aim and became a man. Is this
what God intended? That though He made you from my rib,
it is you who is making me, humbling me, destroying me, and
in so doing revealing Him.
Will we be in ashes before we are one?
What great gravity is this that drew my heart toward yours?
What great force collapsed my orbit, my lonesome state? What
is this that wants in me the want in you? Don't we go at each
other with yielded eyes, with cumbered hands and feet, with
clunky tongues? This deed is unattainable! We cannot know
each other!

I am quitting this thing, but not what you think. I am not
going away.
I will give you this, my love, and I will not bargain or barter
any longer. I will love you, as sure as He has loved me. I will
discover what I can discover and though you remain a mystery,
save God's own knowledge, what I disclose of you I will
keep in the warmest chamber of my heart, the very chamber
where God has stowed Himself in me. And I will do this to my
death, and to death it may bring me.

I will love you like God, because of God, mighted by the

power of God. I will stop expecting your love, demanding
your love, trading for your love, gaming for your love. I will
simply love. I am giving myself to you, and tomorrow I will do
it again. I suppose the clock itself will wear thin its time before
I am ended at this altar of dying and dying again.
God risked Himself on me. I will risk myself on you. And
together, we will learn to love, and perhaps then, and only
then, understand this gravity that drew Him, unto us.

Find You On My Knees

Troubles chasing me again,
breaking down my best defense.
I'm looking God, looking for You.
Weary just won't let me rest,
And fear is filling up my head.
I'm longing God, I'm longing for You.
But I know I will find you in the place I'm in, find You when I'm at my end.
Find You when there's nothing left of me to offer You except for brokenness.
You lift me up, You'll never leave me thirsty.
When I am weak, when I am lost and searching,
I'll find You on my knees.
When my hope is gone,
When the fear is strong,
When the pain is real,
When its hard to heal,
When my faith is shaken
And my heart is broken
And my joy is stolen,
God I know that I can trust You, You lift me up, You'll never leave me thirsty.
When I am weak, when I am lost and searching,
I know I'll find You on my knees.

Song of the Lioness ©

In the growing light of dawn she stands on the edge of a magnificent river,
A silhouette of calmness as she peruses her horizon,
She has travelled far,
From the cold depths of winter, through the hot roils of summer,
Her history is partly written in the sands of the Sphinx,
The obsidian that tore her innocence away,
She struggled through the wilderness, crouched in darkness,
Moving with the shadows,
But drawn and guided by the sun by day,
She broke to the periphery of the thicket,
Walking along the edge of her salvation,
She felt the dawn before the light,
But memory was cruel,
For though she had arrived, her eyes did not see what was before her,
The Artists hands that molded her in her journey,
The Maker of her destiny,
He knew her legacy,
He took the smallest point of light and transformed it into sight,
And now, here she stands, in that very spot,
At the edge of a magnificent river, perusing her horizon,
She’s looking across the Jordan,
And she finally sees the promise before her,
She smiles
And from within her, she begins to purr,
A voice that matures into a rumble,
It is not a mere outburst of sound, but a graduated performance,
She knows who she is, she knows her path has led her here,
And all she has gained is rightly hers
So when she throws her head back and lets it go,
Her roar rolls like thunder
Her voice is a fearless proclamation of protection,
She lives what is within her out loud,
And all the intangibles of faith, hope and love
Become tangible when she sings,
Her voice resonates with the dominion given to her by her Creator,
And reverberates in many an echo in the far distance,
She knows the light that guides her will forever soothe her inner kitty,
He has made her an heiress,
A majestic beauty beheld in her graceful walk,
The dignified look of strength and courage in her eyes,
Do not mistake her meekness for weakness,
For it is absolute power, under perfect control
It is tempered strength and poised might,
There will be no mistaking her incredible beauty and her fierce valor,
For she knows where she has come from,
And she has used it as a stepping stone to where she is going,
Her Maker has fashioned a stunning legacy,
And within her His Spirit is unleashed,
She is the pinnacle of hunting prowess and her roar is an exulting cry,
For hers is a song of freedom,
A lioness arising to the Promised Land,
And she dares to realize all she was created to be.

Enough

Recently, I overheard a mother and daughter in their last moments together at the airport as the daughter’s departure had been announced. Standing near the security gate, they hugged and the mother said: “I love you and I wish you enough.” The daughter replied, “Mom, our life together has been more than enough. Your love is all I ever needed. I wish you enough, too, Mom.” They kissed and the daughter left. The mother walked over to the window where I sat. Standing there, I could see she wanted and needed to cry. I tried not to intrude on her privacy but she welcomed me in by asking, “Did you ever say good-bye to someone knowing it would be forever?” “Yes, I have,” I replied. “Forgive me for asking but why is this a forever good-bye?” “I am old and she lives so far away. I have challenges ahead and the reality is the next trip back will be for my funeral,” she said. When you were saying good-bye, I heard you say, “I wish you enough.” May I ask what that means?” She began to smile. “That’s a wish that has been handed down from other generations. My parents used to say it to everyone.” She paused a moment and looked up as if trying to remember it in detail and she smiled even more. “When we said ‘I wish you enough’ we were wanting the other person to have a life filled with just enough good things to sustain them”. Then turning toward me, she shared the following, reciting it from memory, “I wish you enough sun to keep your attitude bright. I wish you enough rain to appreciate the sun more. I wish you enough happiness to keep your spirit alive. I wish you enough pain so that the smallest joys in life appear much bigger. I wish you enough gain to satisfy your wanting. I wish you enough loss to appreciate all that you possess. I wish you enough hellos to get you through the final good-bye.” She then began to cry and walked away.

Nurture Relationships…..As they say….It takes a minute to find a special person ~ An hour to appreciate them ~ A day to love them ~ And then an entire life to forget them.

Never Let Me Go Lord

An empty space surrounds me, there’s blank on my walls, blank on my floors. My hands before me black and marred, black as a starless night, a sky painted in shadowy obsidian. Tears form an inky trail across my skin; my body covered in stygian scars and slated shadows. Banging on door-less walls and leaving my dirty marks, walls that begin to close on me, threatening to choke me on all my nothingness.
I look within this somber being and I find myself, I finally find You…
The walls are gone, but I do not stand alone, Before You in the eye of a storm, Your love surrounds me like a potent wind, like a consuming ocean rising above me, washing over me…
Your mighty love breaks through every barrier, crashing through all my dusty cracks, a downpour of unending grace, devouring all my hopeless ways, a compelling storm that wipes away the grime as if it never was…
Your sovereign love has washed me clean, warm skin and pink hands, I never want to leave Your awesome presence… Your love surrounds me like a quiet breeze, Your touch is gentle as silence, the warmth of Your love envelopes me like a burning kiss from the sun, intoxicating my lungs with the sweet air of spring, the scent of re-birth, the fragrance of life…
The everlasting arms of my Lord are encased around me, holding me close to that which provokes my reverential spirit, never let me go… Let the light of Your love shine through my soul, let it cascade over the washed-out crowd, let it be a vibrant voice to lead the stray, My humble heart is Yours, my hands full of adoration are raised to You, worthy of every hearts poignant tale of acclamation, never let us go…
